Road Safety Fund Bid – A432
Decision Maker: Executive Director: Growth and Regeneration
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
The decision will permit Bristol City Council
to submit a funding application to the Road Safety Fund Bid to
improve highway safety infrastructure on the A432, Fishponds
Road.
Having missed out on our allocated funding for Tranche 1 there is a
strong case to invest in road safety measures on the A432. The
corridor has seen 23 Killed or Seriously Injured in the last 5
years (2 fatal, 21 serious) which is approximately 5% of the total
for the Bristol area.
Decision:
Approval to submit a bid for
£2,275,000.00 to the Road Safety Fund (Tranche 2) competition
for road safety improvements to the A423 (Fishponds Road).
To note that the decision to spend and deliver the project will
need to be agreed at Cabinet in Spring 2024
To note that the bid is a joint submission with South
Gloucestershire Council who will be allocated a share of the total
£2,275,000.00 value of the bid.
Alternative options considered:
Option 1 - To not submit a funding bid.
Rejected on the grounds that this would prevent the council from
funding and delivering important road safety improvements to the
A432, Fishponds Road
