Disposal of the Temple Square site
Decision Maker: Executive Director: Growth and Regeneration
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
As part of the MTFP, the Council is required
to secure capital receipts of £71m over 5 years.
The Temple Square site is a key regeneration site and a valuable
asset that can make a significant contribution to achieving that
target and meet the Council’s corporate objectives and
commitments. A key requirement of the sale was completion by the
end of March 2024.
The site is located within the Temple Quarter regeneration area and
sale to Homes England will support the wider development and
regeneration proposals for the area and ensures that the site is
retained by a public sector partner who is committed to the
comprehensive redevelopment of Temple Quarter in line with the
Joint Delivery Vehicle Partner ambitions. The site will be included
in the future procurement of a development partner for Temple
Quarter.
Decision:
Approve the sale of the Temple Square site to
Homes England.
3.
Alternative options considered:
Option 1 - Not to sell the site but this would
not secure the capital receipt required to significantly contribute
towards the Council’s capital receipt target and meeting the
Council’s Corporate objectives and commitments.
