Purpose:

Professional service procurement contract to provide oversite to the main civil engineering contract needed to construct the A37/A4018 CRSTS Victoria Street project. This to ensure contractor performance in adhering to cost and schedule.

Decision:

Approval to award the professional services contract to the preferred bidder being Atkins Realis ltd to provide NEC4 Project Management, Site Supervision and Quantity Surveying services in connection with the A37/A4018 Victoria Street project’s civil engineering contract.

Alternative options considered:

Option 1 - Initially it had been planned to use internal resource from Bristol City Council’s Engineering Design team to fulfil the requirement, however, due to resource pressure within the department this has not been possible as there are few qualified personnel to fulfil the requirement. In addition other current transport projects utilising similar services have reported that using specialist resource for these activities has resulted in a reduction in contractor compensation events.
