Purpose:
The decision is based on identified need and
within auspices of the grant, in that this is funding to help local
authorities to development their capacity to care for unaccompanied
asylum seeker children and care leavers and can include staff
training, creating additional placements and supporting entry into
education or providing leaving care support for unaccompanied
asylum seeker children.
Decision:
Agreement on priority areas of spend to
enhance services and deliver improved outcomes for unaccompanied
asylum seeking children and young people.
Priority areas:
1) Education
- Training and support for social workers and carers – up to
£4,000
- Improved education pathways and summer holiday ESL (English as a
second language) course) – up to £12,000
2) Emotional wellbeing and mental health
- Partnership working with the voluntary community sector –
up to £20,000
- CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) support
through Thinking Allowed – up to £10,000
- Information advice and guidance – up to £3,000
3) Workforce capacity and development of sufficient suitable
placements – an investment of up to £136,000
