Purpose:

The capital funds are for essential road repair works to enable BCC to meet its statutory under s41 of the Highways Act. Works are identified through statutory inspections and reports from the public which are not an immediate (category one) defect but will likely deteriorate to become dangerous. These defects can be batched together to form a small works order. This is an essential process to enable Transport Service to meet revenue savings targets.

Decision:

To approve spend on capital allocation of £100K to fund essential footway repairs.

Alternative options considered:

Option 1 - If capital funding is not released then essential safety repairs will have to be funded through the revenue budget. This would likely result in us overspending on this budget and not meeting the Transport Service revenue saving target.
