Private schools are currently exempt from business rates because they are registered as charities, while state schools have to pay this charge from their budgets. In the interests of fairness and equity, we call on the City Council and Mayor to write to the heads of Bristol private schools asking for a full contribution of business rates by Bristol private schools. Any contributions could be distributed evenly between Bristol’s state schools or subsidise activities for all Bristol students.
