Connect Bristol - Bring the Dublin Portal to Bristol

We the undersigned would like the Bristol Council to bring a Portal to Bristol, as a way of connecting Bristol with the world. The portal brings a sense of community with the wholesome interactions and would thrive in such a lively, vibrant and international city such as Bristol. There are many perfect locations to choose from to place one in Bristol that have foot traffic and would bring business to nearby local shops, stores and restaurants. Bristol is known for embracing different cultures and freedom of expression through art, music and society, which is why the Portal would be the perfect addition to our city.

Previously a temporary art piece created to connect the people of Dublin with the people of New York, the portal now has several locations and is growing to include more cities. The cities that participate have a timed live stream that flips through different live streams of the other participating cities every 3 minutes, allowing temporary pure interactions with people from each city. Measures have been taken to keep the now permanent art piece safe and maintain the original thought behind it: connecting strangers across the globe. The overall response has been positive, with people celebrating the connection and bringing joy to daily commutes as well as to tourists, young people and children. There’s no audio so people find creative ways to communicate through the language barrier, with waving and peace signs being common, as well as dancing and taking selfies. It’s 100% optional for people to participate or not due to its limited range of view allowing any one uncomfortable to easily side step its view. Bristol has always been known to embrace art and be a trailblazer for the U.K., join us in bringing the Portal to Bristol!
