Tackle the safety issues caused by rat running up Furber Road.
This petition is regarding the recent substantial increase in
vehicle traffic volumes and speed going up Furber Road from
Bryant’s Hill (A431). This started while the welcome
improvements to the Bryant’s Hill/Kingsway crossings were
carried out. Regrettably traffic levels have not returned to the
levels they were at before the roadworks began.
This entrance to Furber Road is very narrow with a slight bend causing a blind spot in both directions and has no pavement. Vehicles are ignoring the 20mph speed limit, accelerating and driving up the road at very high speeds, oblivious to any oncoming traffic. There is no weight limit, and HGVs get stuck on the road trying to bypass the junction with the Kingsway.
The current situation poses a safety risk to residents, pedestrians and oncoming traffic trying to get down the road towards Hanham.
We call upon the Council to take urgent steps to deter drivers from using Furber Road as a rat run by installing speed humps at the bottom of Furber Road, imposing a weight restriction and taking steps to make the bottom of Furber Road safe for pedestrians.
