Ban the sale of fur in Bristol
As demanded by the government it has been fifteen years since
the last UK fur farm was shut. It was finally accepted that the
exploitation of animals in pursuit of fur is nothing other than
abhorrent and cruel. This belief extends to all animals, from cats
and dogs – whose fur legally cannot be sold in the UK due to
EU trade standards – to coyotes, foxes, mink and raccoons
whose fur is immorally still allowed to be used in fur
fashion.
Despite our acceptance of the immorality of fur farming, the UK
proceeds to endorse it. According to the Humane Society the UK has
imported over £650m-worth since the ban. Evidence from Open
Cages shows that the humane fur farm is a myth: we are importing
cruelty, cannibalism, infanticide and cage madness no matter where
the fur is sourced.
Bristol is known for its progressive and forward-thinking politics,
and with support from Bristol MPs Kerry McCarthy & Darren Jones
for #FurFreeBritain, Open Cages believes Bristol should not lose
its progressive reputation by continuing to fuel the fur trade. You
can be part of the change by signing the petition to encourage the
Bristol Council to act.
