Stop the closure of the Galleries Post Office

We the undersigned Do not believe that the closure and privatisation into WHSmith of the Bristol Galleries is neccessary, right or in the best interests of the community in Bristol. We want Bristol City Council to support the campaign in the following ways -Write to Government to raise concern about the apparent managed decline of the post office network and the impact on high streets across the UK as well as the service in the franchised premises, and the poor quality jobs that result -Calls the Mayor to meet with WHSmith and the Post Office to urge a stop to the planned franchise. -To join local campaigning to raise awareness of the value of our Post Office and the need for it to remain an asset of and for the people.

The Post Office in the Bristol Galleries is the largest in the South West. It provides essential services and it is unbelievable that one of the largest cities in the country should not have a major Post Office.

Downgrading the service and replacing staff with those on minimum wage is not in the interest of Postal Clerks or the wider community.

The plan is to privatise it by moving it into the back of WHSmith. WHSmith is struggling on the high street and planning to close stores - so the service will be under threat of outright closure in the near future.

The Post Office is publically owned and making a profit so there is no good reason for this decision.
