Purpose:
Bristol City Council has attracted significant
funding through the OPCC Grant. This investment in the City, will
enable delivery of an acquisitive crime reduction project to be
undertaken in the area of Manor Farm in Horfield. The area is
currently home to a population of approximately 6500 residents. The
intervention planned includes a variety of situational crime
prevention initiatives such as installation of CCTV cameras,
improved security to residential properties, a fencing scheme,
target hardening, improved community, and neighbourhood watch
initiatives. Implementation of these initiatives will serve to
reduce acquisitive crime, reduce the fear of crime, and grow the
power of these communities from within. The location for investment
has been identified through the OPCC’s analysis of crime
data.
Decision:
Bristol City Council have agreed to receive
funds through the Home Office Safer Streets 1 Fund Grant via the
OPCC. Bristol City Council will spend the funds on delivering a
situational acquisitive crime reduction project in Horfield,
Bristol.
Alternative options considered:
To decline the OPCC grant and/or refuse
permission to spend. The decision to decline the grant was not
taken forward as a preferred option for as to do so would be to
decline the opportunity to undertake the above crime reduction
project.
