Bristol Beacon Refurbishment Project
Decision Maker: Executive Director: Growth and Regeneration
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
The refurbishment of the concert organ is an
essential part of the main refurbishment programme to develop
Bristol Beacon into a world class concert venue. The organ was
originally purpose built and installed in 1956 as part of the last
major refurbishment programme.
Decision:
The award on a contract to Harrison and
Harrison for a second phase of offsite refurbishment works
following by the re installation of the historic organ back into
Bristol Beacon.
Alternative options considered:
Option 1 - This is the direct award of
contract to the original manufacturer of the instrument via a
negotiated procedure. A number of professional organ experts
including those from the Bristol and District Organ Association
have been consulted and they have advised that using a different
company rather than the original manufacturer and installer of such
an historic instrument would have a number of consequences,
including the cost of redesigning and installing the equipment and
a huge risk of the instrument failing to function correctly.
