Carry out Carriageway Maintenance (pre-patching)

Purpose:
To carry our repairs to enable next
year’s programme of carriageway surfacing and preventative
maintenance to be carried out, thus prevent further deprecation of
the asset.
Decision:
Pre-patching of the road is required to repair
foundation failures prior to carrying out surfacing work which may
include preventative maintenance (i.e. Surface Dressing or Micro
Asphalt). The foundation repairs are essential to address defects
within the lower layers of a road, to ensure that it remains
capable of distributing the loading from vehicular traffic.
Alternative options considered:
Option 1 - Alternative option would be not to
carry out the work, which would be to the detriment of the
authority undertaking its statutory duty and would cost the
authority more in the long term.
