Decision Maker: Executive Director: Growth and Regeneration
Decision status: Recommendations Approved
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: No
Purpose:
Jobs, Training and Enterprise grants are made
to enable an increase in delivery of community based upskilling and
readiness for work. Outcomes include provision of facilities to
support local enterprise.
Decision:
To approve the payment of Capital grants
totalling £202,620 to support delivery against the PCRF
themes.
Community Facilities (£2,620)– Miscellaneous equipment
purchase
Jobs, Training and Enterprise (£200,000) – Delivery of:
Shirehampton JTE Hub; Avonmouth Space4Makers Workshop; Space4Makers
equipment; JTE Hub Equipment; PCRF Community Market
Alternative options considered:
Option 1 - The options to deliver the new
Shirehampton JTE Hub and Space4Makers Workshop have been developed
over a period of 18 months with extensive local consultation.
All other Ward based community venues in Shirehampton and Sea Mills
have been considered but unable to confirm an accessible JTE offer.
Shirehampton Methodist Church have developed an accessible building
solution combined with a sustainable delivery approach in
partnership with other local organisations including JCP.
The Space4Makers workshop has been developed in partnership with
the Bristol North West Foodbank. Prior to this alternative options
have been tested without success. Options included: a commercial
tender for a Ward Based Maker Lab which provided no tenders; a
community led incorporated group to manage a Maker Fund which did
not progress due to lack of capacity within local community
organisations. The Space4Makers Workshop offer that has emerged
from the testing of options and engagement with Ward based
organisations is a robust and sustainable project with a strong
network to enable engagement of the hardest to reach residents and
potential volunteers and supporters.
