Purpose:
This decision has a very significant impact
the Native North American communities and is potentially of high
interest to the public and councillors.
Decision:
It was agreed to repatriate two human skulls
and associated grave goods, donated to Bristol Museum in the 1920s
by Alfred Hutchins, to the Ti’at Society and Fowler Museum of
UCLA, California USA.
Alternative options considered:
Option 1 - The Ti’at Society approached
Bristol Museum in 2016, negotiation and correspondence has
confirmed that the Society, linked through the Fowler Museum are
the appropriate body to return these remains to so they will be
treated and respected in accordance with the wishes of the Native
North American peoples.
