Appointment of Honorary Aldermen
Full Council is asked to consider the recommendations of the Audit Committee and confer the title of Honorary Alderman of the City and County of Bristol upon former councillors Gus Hoyt, Bill Payne, Simon Cook, the late David Morris, Alastair Watson and Mike Wollacott, and to confer the title of Honorary Alderwoman of the City and County of Bristol upon former councillor Jenny Smith.
Minutes:
The Full Council considered a report recommending that the title of Honorary Alderman of the City and County of Bristol be conferred upon former councillors Gus Hoyt, Bill Payne, the late David Morris, Simon Cook, Alastair Watson and Mike Wollacott, and that the title of Honorary Alderwoman of the City and County of Bristol be conferred upon former councillor Jenny Smith.
The Lord Mayor moved the appointment of Gus Hoyt as an Honorary Alderman.
Councillor Bolton seconded the nomination of Gus Hoyt.
The following councillors also spoke in relation to Gus Hoyt’s nomination:
Councillor Bradshaw
Councillor Hiscott
Councillor Kent
Upon being put to the vote, it was
RESOLVED:
That Gus Hoyt be appointed as an Honorary Alderman of the City and County of Bristol.
Gus Hoyt then received his Alderman’s badge and certificate from the Lord Mayor.
Gus Hoyt then addressed the Full Council.
The Lord Mayor then moved the appointment of Bill Payne as an Honorary Alderman.
Councillor Jackson seconded the nomination of Bill Payne.
The following councillors also spoke in relation to Bill Payne’s nomination:

Upon being put to the vote, it was
RESOLVED:
That Bill Payne be appointed as an Honorary Alderman of the City and County of Bristol.
Bill Payne then received his Alderman’s badge and certificate from the Lord Mayor.
Bill Payne then addressed the Full Council.
The Lord Mayor then moved the appointment of the late David Morris as an Honorary Alderman.
Councillor Goulandris seconded the nomination of David Morris.
The following councillors also spoke in relation to David Morris’ nomination:

Alderman Colin Williams, speaking on behalf of David Morris’ family
Upon being put to the vote, it was
RESOLVED:
That David Morris be appointed posthumously as an Honorary Alderman of the City and County of Bristol.
David Morris’ wife, Kath Morris then received his Alderman’s badge and certificate from the Lord Mayor.
At this point, the meeting was adjourned for a refreshment break.
Upon the meeting being reconvened:
The Lord Mayor moved the appointment of Simon Cook as an Honorary Alderman.
Councillor Hopkins seconded the nomination of Simon Cook.
The following councillors also spoke in relation to Simon Cook’s nomination:

That Simon Cook be appointed as an Honorary Alderman of the City and County of Bristol.
Simon Cook then received his Alderman’s badge and certificate from the Lord Mayor.

The Lord Mayor then moved the appointment of Alastair Watson as an Honorary Alderman.
Councillor Gollop seconded the nomination of Alastair Watson.

Upon being put to the vote, it was
RESOLVED:
That Alastair Watson be appointed as an Honorary Alderman of the City and County of Bristol.
Alastair Watson then received his Alderman’s badge and certificate from the Lord Mayor.
Alastair Watson then addressed the Full Council.
The Lord Mayor then moved the appointment of Jenny Smith as an Honorary Alderwoman.
Councillor Massey seconded the nomination of Jenny Smith.

That Jenny Smith be appointed as an Honorary Alderwoman of the City and County of Bristol.
Jenny Smith then received her Alderwoman’s badge and certificate from the Lord Mayor.
Jenny Smith then addressed the Full Council.
The Lord Mayor then moved the appointment of Mike Wollacott as an Honorary Alderman.
Councillor Langley seconded the nomination of Mike Wollacott.

Upon being put to the vote, it was
RESOLVED:
That Mike Wollacott be appointed as an Honorary Alderman of the City and County of Bristol.
Mike Wollacott then received his Alderman’s badge and certificate from the Lord Mayor.
Mike Wollacott then addressed the Full Council.
Councillor Tincknell then addressed the Full Council, adding her own and the Mayor’s congratulations to those honoured at the meeting.
The Lord Mayor then concluded the meeting, adding his congratulations to those honoured at the meeting.
